How Much Protein for Muscle Growth???
How Much Protein? -If you are trying to get big and buffed, protein is king!
There are many different "schools of thought" on how much protein we should ingest on a daily basis and just like everything else when it comes to diet and working out...
There is NO one right answer.
This is simply because we are all different, have different needs, workout at different intensity levels, are different ages, have different metabolic rates and so on and so on.
I find it interesting when some health guru says you should take this amount or that amount of something because they do not even know who you are!!
The general consensus on how much protein an active person should take is roughly one gram for every pound of body weight although some health professionals believe this is too much and your body will just eliminate the excess.
We all know that protein is the fundamental substance that our bodies are made of and is especially important for rebuilding muscle tissue after a hard workout but I have discovered something recently that has given me new light on the subject.
I doubled my protein intake and saw immediate results.
About six months ago I was cruising around on the net and happened across a muscle site that recommended taking 2 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
I decided to give it a shot and almost immediately I saw an increase in muscle growth which has led me to the conclusion that my body likes and uses the extra protein.
It's very difficult to get that much protein from your daily food intake so I drink protein shakes between every meal ( roughly 5 small meals a day ) and also if I happen to wake up in the middle of the night.
I'm not promoting Jarrow but their Optimeal product is great because it has a balanced blend of protein AND carbs....yes I eat carbs but only the good kind.
The "near bedtime" and "middle of the night" shakes are just protein without the carbs.
Bottom line is that increasing protein intake made a big difference in my muscle growth and it may help you as well.
Remember you could chow down a truckload of protein and it will do no good if you are not breaking down your muscle tissue by doing some good hard workouts.
Also remember that every body dances to a different vibe. This works for me but may not for you. Experiment a little and see what works for you.
